Introduction

Welcome to Openotas. We are committed to protecting your privacy. Openotas is designed as a privacy-first application where your data stays on your device. This policy explains how we handle your information.

Information We Collect

Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All your content is stored exclusively on your device. We do not have access to this data, and it never leaves your device unless you choose to export it. This includes:

  • Notes, documents, and audio recordings you create
  • Flashcards and quiz data generated from your notes
  • Study statistics and learning progress
  • App preferences and settings
  • Chat conversations with the AI assistant

No Cloud Storage

Openotas does not use cloud storage for your content. There are no user accounts, no cloud sync, and no remote servers storing your notes, flashcards, or personal data. Your content exists only on your device.

User-Controlled Backups

You can manually create backup files of your data. These backups are:

  • Created only when you choose to export them
  • Saved as local files that you control
  • Shared only where you choose to send them (e.g., Files app, cloud storage of your choice)
  • Not automatically uploaded anywhere

On-Device AI Processing

Openotas uses artificial intelligence models that run entirely on your device. This means:

  • All AI processing happens locally - your content is never sent to external AI servers
  • Summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and chat responses are generated on your device
  • Audio transcription is performed locally using on-device speech recognition
  • Your content remains completely private and under your control

Subscription & Payment Data

If you purchase a subscription, we use RevenueCat to process payments. RevenueCat receives:

  • A unique device identifier (not linked to your personal identity)
  • Your subscription status and purchase history
  • Aggregate usage counts (e.g., number of notes created) for subscription tier management

RevenueCat does not receive your notes, flashcards, or any content you create. For more information, see RevenueCat's privacy policy.

No Analytics or Tracking

Openotas does not use any analytics services, crash reporting tools, or user tracking. We do not collect:

  • Usage behavior or patterns
  • Location data
  • Device information beyond what's needed for the app to function
  • Any personally identifiable information

Data Security

Your data is protected by your device's built-in security features. Sensitive information like your device identifier is stored in secure storage (iOS Keychain or Android Keystore). Since your data never leaves your device, it cannot be intercepted in transit.

Your Rights

Because your data is stored locally, you have complete control:

  • Access: All your data is already on your device
  • Export: Use the backup feature to export your data anytime
  • Delete: Uninstalling the app removes all your data, or use the reset feature in settings
  • Portability: Your backups are standard files you can keep and use as you wish

Children's Privacy

Openotas is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
